Dhaka South, North and four other city corporations get administrators

The government has appointed administrators to six city corporations, including Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
According to a notification issued on Monday, the Local Government Division under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives made the appointments as per the 'Local Government (City Corporation) Amendment Ordinance, 2024', reports BSS.
Md Abdus Salam has been appointed administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, while Md Shafiqul Islam Khan will oversee the Dhaka North City Corporation.
Nazrul Islam Manju has been appointed to Khulna City Corporation, Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury to Sylhet City Corporation, Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan to Narayanganj City Corporation, and Md Shawkat Hossain Sarkar to Gazipur City Corporation.
The newly appointed administrators will serve until the respective city corporations are reorganised or until further orders are issued.
They will exercise all powers and perform all duties of the mayors of the six city corporations in accordance with sub-section (3) of Section 25A of the ordinance. They will receive allowances as per the existing rules, the notification added.
