Dhaka stocks continued upward trend Wednesday, the penultimate day ahead of a prolonged eid vacation. DSE broader index- DSEX- posted a gain of 1.55 per cent or 78.96 points to close at 5153.26 points. Out of 302 traded issues, 229 advanced, 52 declined and the remaining 21 remained unchanged. Titas Gas topped the chart of turnover leaders with a value of Tk 966.12 million traded. The other turnover leaders were Grameenphone, Square pharma, Delta Life Insurance, MJL Bangladesh, Jamuna Oil Olympic Industries, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, Beximco and Padma Oil. The market insiders said market-friendly measures taken by the securities regulator and significant rise in portfolio investments boosted investors’ confidence which is being reflected in turnover value. Officials of the Dhaka Stock Exchange said total turnover of portfolio investments rose 137.22 per cent to close at Tk 7.52 billion in September, 2014.
