Dhaka stocks mixed after gaining streak

FE ReportbrDhaka stocks closed mixed Tuesday after eight straight sessions of gaining amid low turnover. brTrading on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) opened on a positive note, pushing the main index up by more than 24 points from the very outset, spurred by the debut trading of GrameenS2 mutual fund.brThe market barometers -- the benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN) and the All Shares Price Index (DSI) -- rose 10.61 points and 8.57 points to end at 2,831.40 and 2,416.32 respectively.brThe DSE-20 index comprising blue chips, however, fell 18.80 points to finish at 2,434.23 on price correction.brOn the debut trading day, the stock price of the GrameenS2 mutual fund, the top gainer, climbed 330 per cent to finish at Tk 43.00, making it the top turnover leader with shares worth Tk 308.83 million traded.brThe market saw more red than green on the day as out of 228 issues traded, 91 advanced, 125 declined and 12 remained unchanged. brThe investors disposed of their holdings and purchased the stocks of some heavy weight companies on the day, leaving the market flat, according to the market operators. brThe prime bourse also went through some minor price corrections, meaning that some investors booked profit, they said. br'The investors got back confidence to some extent from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s steps to stabilise the market. But their confidence might be eroded unless any policy measures are taken by the commission after end of its talks with different stakeholders starting from August 20 last,' a market expert said.br'But the low turnover indicated the market was yet to get back its full rhythm,' he added.brThe total turnover, powered by gainers, declined to Tk 2.71 billion against the previous day's Tk 3.35 billion. The total market capitalisation also rose to Tk 990.60 billion against Tk 975.84 billion of the previous day. brTitas Gas was the second turnover leader with shares worth Tk 265.22 million changing hands. Its stock prices posted a gain of 0.88 per cent to close at Tk 428.00 a share.brOther turnover leaders of the day were ACI, ICB Second NRB, Islami Bank, Lankabangla Finance Limited, Square Pharma, DESCO, Pragati Insurance and Eastland Insurance.brBD Thai Aluminum posted the second biggest gain of 16.84 per cent, followed by Pragati Insurance with 12.02 per cent, Anwar Galvanising 7.96 per cent, Maq Enterprise 7.84 per cent, Aftab Automobiles 6.70 per cent and Reliance Insurance 6.30 per cent.brBengal Fine Ceramic, Rangamati Food, 4th ICB, 2nd ICB, Hakkani Pulp and Paper, 1st BSRS and 8th ICB were the top losers on the day.br
