Dhaka stocks' rally continues

Dhaka stocks continued to rally Thursday for the third consecutive session as both institutional and retail investors went on a buying spree.
All the indices of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE)--the benchmark DSE General Index (DGEN), the All Shares Price Index (DSI) and the DSE-20 Index (DS20)-gained 24.57 points, 20.26 points and 5.56 points to finish at 2931.38, 2476.36 and 2318.31 respectively.
The key index DGEN climbed more than 39 points in the first hour of trading due to a strong buying support from the investors and later it shed some points towards the close of trade.
Share prices of all insurance companies except one recorded rise on the day.
In the last several weeks, the insurance companies' shares continued to rise on the rumour that the paid-up capital of those companies would be enhanced.
However, top gainers of the day among the insurance companies were Asia Pacific Insurance, Karnaphuli Insurance, Sonar Bangla Insurance, Mercantile Insurance and Peoples Insurance with their shares rising by 10.82 per cent, 10.50 per cent, 7.96 per cent, 7.22 per cent and 6.43 per cent respectively.
The total turnover rose to Tk 1.99 billion (199 crore) from the previous day's Tk 1.86 billion. The total market capitalisation crossed the Tk 800 billion mark after a long gap to rise to Tk 804 billion from Wednesday's Tk 798.90 billion.
Out of 232 issues traded, 165 gained, 54 declined and 13 remained unchanged.
