Dhaka-Thimpu bilateral trade stressed

Ambassador of Bhutan in Bangladesh Dasho BAP Kesang has stressed the need for increased bilateral trade and co-operation between Bhutan and Bangladesh.
The envoy made the observation while he called on President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Zafar Osman at DCCI Office in the city Thursday, according to a press release.
During the meeting they discussed increase in bilateral trade and co-operation between the two countries. Zafar Osman thanked the envoy for his visit to DCCI and said Bhutan is one of the friendly neighbouring countries of Bangladesh.
Under SAARC, the two countries can explore new sectors of trade and commerce through bilateral co-operation, he added.
He further said despite cordial bilateral relationship between the two countries, trade and investment between these two countries are not at an expected level. In this regard, Zafar Osman laid emphasis on signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) between Bangladesh and Bhutan and an MoU between DCCI and Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) to improve bilateral trade ties between these two countries further.
He proposed that entrepreneurs of Bhutan might invest in Bangladesh and assured the ambassador of all-out support from DCCI in this connection.
He also put emphasis on developing the border trade and efficient means of communication between the two friendly countries.
Zafar Osman called upon the ambassador to recruit professionals like doctors, engineers, teachers of IT from Bangladesh.
Senior Vice President of DCCI MS Shekil Chowdhury suggested for exchanging delegates both from private and government sectors through land route.
Mr Kesang greeted the DCCI president for his cooperative gesture. He also assured him of taking effective measures to develop the bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan.
He said Bangladesh can utilise the fresh water of Bhutan by establishing bottling plants in Bhutan.
DCCI Directors RI Khan, Advocate Abdul Aziz Sarker, Md Sirajul Islam and Nasir Hossain were present at the meeting.
