Bangladesh and Japan have agreed on speedy implementation of projects with the money pledged by Japan during Sheikh Hasina’s recent Tokyo visit.
Both countries also agreed to form two teams to make sure the projects are implemented quickly.
The two countries reached the consensus when a delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) led by its President Dr Akihiko Tanaka met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Parliament office in the evening, according to a news agency.
The two teams from Bangladesh and Japan will sit together and take decisions for speedy implementation of the projects.
Prime Minister’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhury briefed reporters after the meeting.
During Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent visit to Japan, Tokyo committed to providing up to US$ 5.9 billion (600 billion yen) as assistance to Bangladesh from this year for the next four to five years by fully taking into account the proper and smooth implementation of the projects.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made the announcement to provide this financial assistance, including the 35th ODA loan package of 1.20 billion US dollars, to Bangladesh.
