Dhaka Travel Mart opens

A four-day international tourism fair "Dhaka Travel Mart-2014" (DTM 2014) began Wednesday in the city's Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel.
Rashed Khan Menon, minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism formally inaugurated the fair.
Participating organisations have been offering special discount on air fares, tour packages to lure clients.
More then 50 organisations including local and foreign tour operators, hotels, resorts, travel trade bodies have taken part in the fair.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Menon said "Bangladesh is a country with immense potentials in the travel and tourism sector and we have much to offer to tourists from different parts of the world".
He said the government is taking some pragmatic steps towards promoting the sector.
He said "I strongly believe that efforts by the government and private sector will take this sector forward and contribute substantially to the country's economy".
Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), said the fair is being held at a time when the country experiences a healthy growth in the travel and tourism sector.
He said "I believe that with favorable policy support from the present government and political stability will help flourish the tourism sector".
Akhteruz Zaman Khan Kabir, chief executive officer (CEO) of Bangladesh Tourism Board also spoke on the occasion chaired by Kazi Wahidul Alam Editor of Bangladesh Monitor.
The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism based publication, organised the fair, where Eastern Bank Ltd is the title sponsor, Biman Bangladesh Airlines is its airline partner and Bangladesh Tourism Board is the premium partner.
The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm for visitors. The entry fee for each visitor is Tk 20.
