Monday, 1 December 2008
Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed urged the international community to take serious steps in alleviating the plight of the Palestinian people and bringing the peace process back on track, reports UNB.
"We reaffirm the commitment to supporting the just and legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination and statehood," the CA said in message on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People to be observed today (Monday).
He said, "We have no doubt that the Palestinian people have been subjected to unfathomable injustice and flagrant violation of human rights for decades."
Bangladesh remains resolute in condemning indiscriminate use of force by the aggressors against the Palestinian people, he added.
The CA termed the Palestine crisis 'sad episode in the history of mankind' saying "It remains a source of contention and violence in the Middle East".
"We sadly observe that despite many peace initiatives, a free and independent homeland still remains illusive to the Palestinian people".
Fakhruddin said that the most significant and relevant aspect of the international community's expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people was the fulfilment of their fundamental rights to a homeland, free of foreign occupation.
