Dhaka's street crimes
Thursday, 22 June 2023
Street crimes in Dhaka city have become a common problem these days. Almost every other day, we come to know that a person has been hijacked or robbed of money and jewellery. Those involved in these crimes do so because they are unable to meet even their basic needs. Hence, they would rather commit a crime than die of hunger. Unemployment and drug addiction also contribute to this. Considering the ever-increasing inflation, street crimes and all other kinds of crimes are increasing.
It is now up to the law enforcers to draw up an effective strategy to combat these crimes. The issue, however, needs a holistic approach. While we need to work on making the city safe and secure, we also need to address the root causes of these crimes. We hope that the government will take serious steps against these crimes so that people enjoy the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha peacefully.
