DHL, the world's leading express and logistics company, Thursday announced the launch of 'DHL Volunteer Day' in Bangladesh, a community outreach program involving over 15,000 employees across Asia Pacific to encourage the spirit of volunteerism among employees, said a press release.
In Bangladesh, some 50 staff actively participated in a day long volunteering program at the "Oishi Shishu Niketon" - a primary school for the unprivileged children located at Kalyanpur.
The day started with an art competition among the school children mostly studying at Nursery and KG-1 level in the Oishi Shishu Niketon. The art competition was followed by an enchanting musical and dance performance by the children. Showing their true talent, they sang and danced to the beat of popular local songs. After the performance a school kit containing pencils, sharpner, eraser, pencil box, school bag, and a water pot was presented to each of the 53 children of the school. Later on the day, the "Meena" cartoon show was organized for the children. It was well accepted by all of them.
Desmond Quiah, Country Manager of DHL Express Bangladesh and Standford Tabarias, General Manager, Commercial & Operations, DHL Excel Supply Chain Bangladesh in their deliberations said that, "This is a joint effort between the two DHL entities and we at DHL, believe that our employees are the main strenght of our organization. We believe that every single employee both individually and collectively can play an important role in the betterment of the society and environment.
This collaborated effort toward the students of the Oishi Shishu Niketon as well as the tree plantation program proves that employees of DHL or in this matter any other organization can make a huge difference in the local community. It is these small but very significant initiatives that we all should emphasize on. The society can only move forward if we extend our helping hands towards the ones who need it the most."
