DHL pumps in $10m to enhance its logistics

The world renowned air freighter, DHL, announced a new joint venture investment of US$10 million over the next few years to enhance its logistic capabilities in the country.
DHL and its long time local associate, Trade Clippers Cargo Ltd, formed a company titled DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh.
Amadou Diallo, chief executive officer, DHL (South Asia Pacific), said this at a press conference in the city Wednesday.
"South Asia remains a key sourcing, manufacturing and distribution base for the global fashion industry and the region offers tremendous growth for the fashion logistics sector," he said.
Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka alone are estimated to account for well over $2.4 billion in this fast-growing industry.
Coupled with the global economic rebound, he added, "We are very optimistic of sustained growth as consumer demand in the fashion and apparel sector regains."
Their immediate focus is to serve the fashion and apparel manufacturing base, leverage the network capabilities to support infrastructure projects in Bangladesh and fulfill the logistics needs of the growing aid and relief sectors.
"The investment in Bangladesh will go towards strengthening the joint venture, employee training, upgrading of information systems, enhancing, expanding the infrastructure and introducing a range of new services for businesses in Bangladesh," Mustaque Ahmed, managing director of DHL Bangladesh said.
