Dholai Khal capabilities

Tuesday, 21 January 2014

A full page write up with photographs was published on January 17 in a local English daily. It was an appropriate and fitting appreciation of the engineering capabilities and skills of the gifted and highly capable mechanics and technical personnel working at Dholai Khal. They can copy and innovate all sorts of mechanical parts and machine components.
A couple of decades back, when I was actively, and hands on associated with a major plant and equipment upkeep, I had personal contacts with many of these highly skilled technical experts, who in my opinion, are more skilled and savvy in equipment repairing and modifications than many 'foreign technical experts' that I came across during my long career in industrial plant and equipment operation and maintenance. This is based on my real life interactions with many so-called 'foreign technical experts' who were surprised when we stopped buying regular consumable spares from them, and in many cases modified their equipment too.
In those days, I had interesting interactions with the Dholaikhal technicians regarding various mechanical trouble shootings and spare parts making and repairing experiences. Their best compliment about me was that they felt and many a time, expressed that I was one of them despite my being an engineer.
I am grateful to the daily daily's editorial team for correctly appreciating their potential, as well as their know-how, talent and technical acumen in the specialised field. I thank the daily, for appreciating these unrecognised 'talents' who our white-collar engineering fraternity tend to ignore. I strongly believe that they are among the most valuable technical assets of Bangladesh.
