Dibyendu lifts United GM chess title

Grand Master Dibyendu Barua of India lifted the 9th United Insurance and United Leasing Grandmasters Chess Tournament title with a brilliant win against GM Khusnutdinov Rustam of Kazakhstan in the 10th and final round at National Sports Council Tower Auditorium Lounge in the city Saturday, reports BSS.
This year the event was sponsored by United Insurance Company Limited and United Leasing Company Limited and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation.
GM Dibyendu's final point collection rose to 7.5 points. GM Mchedlishvili Mikheil and GM Gagunashvili Merab of Georgia finished second and third respectively. They earned 7 points each.
FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Biman bagged the fourth spot and also earned his first IM norm GM Igor Rausis of Czech Republic and GM Tejas Bakre of India captured the fifth and sixth spots respectively. The players, who secured the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, earned 6.5 points each respectively.
Bitan Banerjee of India, GM Reefat Bin Sattar of Biman, Praveen Kumar C of India, GM Neelotpal Das of India, GM Khusnutdinov Rustam of Kazakhstan, GM Enamul Hossain Razib of Destiny and GM Abdullah Al Rakib got the seventh and thirteenth positions respectively with six points each.
Later in the afternoon, Commerce Minister Lt Col (retd) M Faruq Khan distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
