Differences in BNP resolved, says Hafiz

Tuesday, 13 November 2007

BNP acting secretary general Hafizuddin Ahmed Monday claimed that all differences in the party had been resolved and they were undertaking reforms keeping the position of Khaleda Zia in the party in tact, reports UNB.
"Disunity centring upon chairperson Khaleda Zia exists no longer. She is the leader of BNP and shall remain chairperson in future. Khaleda Zia is the asset of the party.
Few are still harbouring disunity for personal gains in the party," said the reformist leader.
Talking to newsmen at his Banani residence Hafiz said the only reason of difference in BNP was that some thought reforms in the party were being done leaving out Khaleda Zia.
"That's not true. Reforms are being made keeping her position in the party in tact."
"Leadership was another problem. That has been resolved. The party has now the right leadership," added Hafiz probably meaning Saifur Rahman who was acting as chairperson in the absence of Khaleda Zia.
When his attention was drawn to the remarks of Law Adviser, Hafiz said reforms in BNP were the demand of the time.
"Khaleda Zia and all of us want reforms in the party. BNP is undergoing reforms, which are a must."
The BNP leader noted with satisfaction that the Election Commission had taken initiative for electoral reforms to restrict the practice of awarding party nomination in exchange of money.
He expressed the hope that corrupt persons and black money holders would be disqualified for contesting the election.
Hafiz said the committee formed with Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan as head was considering the electoral reforms proposed by the Election Commission (EC).
It would soon finalise the proposal for submitting to EC during the dialogue set for November 22.
He said that senior BNP leader MK Anwar was not in the committee for his personal reasons. But he assured of his cooperation in preparing the proposal.
