Monday, 1 September 2014

The administrative committee investigating the Narayanganj 7 murders has questioned Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police SM Mahfuzul Haque for more than an hour. He testified before them from 2:30pm to 4:00pm at the probe body head Shahjahan Ali Molla’s office at the Secretariat on Sunday. During interrogation, DIG Haque (Dhaka Range) was asked about who could be involved and whether the law enforcers fell short in reacting to the situation, Shahjahan Ali Molla said. Seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation’s Ward 4 Councillor Nazrul Islam and the district judge’s court’s senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar were abducted from Fatulla on April 27 and their bodies were found floating in Sitalakkha and Dhaleswai rivers on April 30 and May 1. The 7-member inquiry committee headed by Molla, was formed by the government on May 7 after a High Court order. Its task is to investigate whether any law enforcement or administrative personnel were involved in any manner with these murders, according to a news agency.
