Government entities have shown keen interest on the digital car park systems for the city proposed by a local company.
A local company -- Seaborne Ltd. - proposed to the government to set up 50 car parks in the city to avert the city's nagging traffic jams.
The company officials said the proposed car parking systems in various locations of the Motijheel-Gulistan area could accommodate 2000 cars at a time. This will create a positive impact on traffic movement clogged by indiscriminate car parking in that area.
Dhaka Transport Coordination Board (DTCB), RAJUK, Dhaka City Corporation (DCC), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) at a meeting Monday showed their interests on the proposal.
The meeting was jointly organised by the Sea Borne and DTCB of Ministry of Communications with Executive Director of DTCB, Md Moshiur Rahman in the chair.
Managing Director of Sea Borne Ltd., Faruber Anwar said, "Owners are compelled to park their cars on the road-side which is enhancing the traffic jam in the city. But our proposed system will provide a solution to that problem."
Narayan Lal Kundu, senior marketing leader of TAL, a TATA Enterprise presented a keynote paper on it.
The keynote speaker said, the digital car parking system accommodates 40 cars in a space otherwise occupied by 3 cars in a conventional parking.
"It is a tower of 12 storey height. It is a method of automatically parking and retrieving cars, typically using lifts controlled by software," he added.
He also said it will provide complete safety to a vehicle as parked cars are not accessible and no damage or dents occurs to the cars while parking through narrow drive ways.
The speaker said, it has fast retrieval facilities with an average retrieval time of 90 seconds for a single car.
"It will maximise car parking in minimum space, avoid pilfering, avoid road narrowing by scattered car parking in the busy area," the speaker said.
He said it is a solution to the car owners to find suitable car parking place where parking is prohibited. It will further increase prestige of the Dhaka City.
Seaborne managing director said there are 2 multi-storied car parks in the Motijheel area but those are not popular because driving from the other direction is quite time consuming.
