The 4-day Digital Expo organised by Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) ended in the city Saturday with visitors and exhibitors alike stressing that providing subsidy to the computer and IT accessories would help flourish the local information and communication industry and infrastructure.
Likewise, the continuing downtrend in the prices of portable PCs in the domestic market and the parallel growing interest of local consumers in Internet and online technologies were all evident at the grand gala of digital technologies in the country.
Brand new Laptops took the centre stage in the expo making it as much visible as to confuse the event as a 'laptop only' fair, which is understandable given the reported sales of 5000 units of these ultra portable computers each month in the country.
Youths were clearly the lifeblood of the four-day mega event which coincides with two weekly holidays along with the country's Independence Day on March 26 meaning that they have got the opportunity to rush to the fair venue in thousands; making the event a big success.
Big and old names in the PC market like HP, Dell, Asus and Acer as well as the newer entries like Toshiba, Canon, Sony and Fujitsu have grabbed the opportunity to showcase the latest and the hottest in their wide range of deals while the tech savvy consumers were all out to find the ideal bargain on their coveted brands and models thanks to the huge discounts and attractive bonanzas offered.
When asked about the brand of their choice most of the potential buyers strolling the fair however stated they are ready to 'forgo ultra compatibility for cheaper deals on their portable PCs.
Talking to FE, a lot of the exhibitors also said buyers this time are more attracted than ever to models priced more reasonably, because in their words: "Why not to sacrifice a few features on a home PC for a few thousand?"
