Digital Taskforce to sit soon

The meeting of "Digital Taskforce,' the highest platform for ICT development in the country, will sit soon after a gap of more than three years, sources said.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry Wednesday asked the concerned ministries to submit their detailed reports on progress of the "Digital Bangladesh Taskforce Meeting 1."
The ICT ministry requested the concerned ministries to send their updates of progress in the upcoming meeting to be headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The last meeting of the "Digital Taskforce" was held on August 3, 2010, which took decision to keep update the all government entities' websites in both Bangla and English. There was another instruction in the meeting for the ministries to implement different project as per the National ICT Policy 2009.
According to the first meeting, the Taskforce was supposed to sit at least once in every three months, but it did not happen in last three and half years.
President of Bangladesh Computer Society Mustafa Jabbar who is one of the members of the 23-member committee said so far he has no knowledge regarding the second meeting.  He thinks the meeting could be held after getting approval from the Prime Minister.  
In August last, there was an effort to hold the meeting. But in that time the authority concerned could not manage time and date for the meeting, sources said.
The ICT specialist Mr Jabbar also opined that frequent meetings will give impetus to accelerate the activities of the ICT sector.
The Awami League led-government established the taskforce for formulating strategies, policies and decisions for "digital Bangladesh" as per its 2008 election pledges. A total of 23 members have been incorporated in the taskforce taken representatives from relevant government ministries and non-government organisations, as well as ICT experts.
