Digital tickets at 3 ferry ghats from Oct 1

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Tuesday signed a a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce rapid pass magnetic card system on experimental basis at Daulatdia, Paturia and Kazirhat ferry ghats from October 1.
BIWTC director Sudhakar Datta and JICA representative Kozi Mito Mori signed the MoU at Shipping Ministry conference room in the capital.
Shipping Secretary Shafique Alam Mehdi, chairman of BIWTC M Mizanur Rahman, executive director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) Kaikobad Hossain and senior representative of JICA Taku Yamabe were present, among others, on the occasion.
According to the MoU, JICA will bear all necessary expenditures for beginning the rapid pass system like hardware, software and related instrument, commissioning and training. BIWTC will repair and build total seven ticket counters at three ferry ghats.
The pilot project is the part of "Establishment of Clearing House for Integrating Transport Ticketing System" project in Dhaka City which will be completed within a year.
The facility will enable the passengers to avail digital tickets that will end the sufferings from waiting long in the queue for tickets, a BSS report added.
