Dilapidated condition of cinema halls
Saturday, 8 February 2014
A few days ago, I was passing by a cinema hall at old Dhaka which, in my childhood days, I used to visit frequently. I was sad when I noticed its dilapidated condition. It was in so rundown a state that I wondered how the audiences could enter such a hole. I know, apart from a few, most of the cinema halls in our country are in the same condition. The number of movie-goers has been declining day by day and if the situation does not improve soon, our movie industry will fall apart. If proper steps are taken, we will not face dearth of talented people in our movie industry.
Most of the theatres of Dhaka city don't have proper ventilation. The seats are torn and shabby, the curtains are dilapidated, and the sound system is poor. Even some of the reputed cinema halls of Dhaka are no exception. If the atmosphere of a cinema hall is not comfortable, most of the people will shun it. When we go to cinema halls, we want entertainment and comfort. I think the government has an important role to play here so that we can get much improved atmosphere in our cinema halls.
