CHITTAGONG, Oct 17: The people in the port city have been suffering for long as most of the roads are in deplorable state mainly due to lack of proper repair works, sources said.
Even two months after the rainy season, no positive step has so far been taken by the concerned authority to repair the dilapidated roads.
In the situation, the city roads have virtually become unfit for movement of commuters and vehicles to a great extent.
Although Bahaddarhat area is earmarked to be an important part of the port city, the roads linking Chawkbazar, Kapashgola, Muradpur and Sholoshohor areas from Bahaddarhat are full of unlimited cracks and holes.
Renovation works on Nawab Sirajuddowla Road, beginning from Chawkbazar area to Andarkilla, are still incomplete since 2006 and the city dwellers are sceptical if the renovation work will finish at all.
Condition of Nazir Ahmad Chowdhury Road beginning from the western side of Shahee Jame Mosque upto the T&T office at Nondon Khan area has also remained in a very deplorable condition.
Most of the roads of the Port City are busy as thousands of vehicles move through these roads regularly.
Due to lack of proper repair and renovation works numerous holes and cracks have developed on those roads, sources added.
Passengers of the vehicles, while travelling through these roads, often become victimised of untold sufferings.
In the situation, immediate government step has been sought in this connection.
