Diplomatic missions, commercial wings yet to gear up export performance

Saturday, 8 May 2010

The country's export earnings are gradually coming out of a negative trend (July-March, 2009-10, -0.80 per cent) as the export earnings in March marked an 18.38 per cent growth compared to the corresponding month of the previous fiscal (2008-09).
But, the diplomatic missions of Bangladesh as well as the commercial wings are yet to gear up their performance as most of them are below their export target.
According to mission-wise and commercial wing-wise statistics available at the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) for the July-Feb period of the 2009-2010 fiscal year, it was found that most of the diplomatic missions and commercial wings fell below their export targets, reports UNB.
The actual export earnings for the period was US$10020.35 million as against the target of $11295.68 million, which was 3.21 per cent less than the corresponding period of the previous year and also 11.29 per cent less than the target for the period itself concerned.
Out of the 44 diplomatic missions of Bangladesh working abroad, 20 missions achieved their export target while 24 failed.
