Dipu Moni seeks WB cooperation

Foreign Minister Dipu Moni Friday sought cooperation from all concerned, including World Bank, to help make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021, reports UNB.
She sought the cooperation when Isabel Guerrero, WB Vice-president for South Asia region, met her in Washington, according to a message received in the city Saturday.
During the meeting, Dipu and Guerrero discussed issues related to rail and railway, energy sector cooperation, cooperation in water sector, development of infrastructure, trade involving the South Asian countries and in that context investment by the WB.
The Foreign Minister also highlighted the importance of capacity building especially in the area of data information.
Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Akramul Qader, Director General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Ali Sarcar and WB officials were present during the meeting.
Later, Dipu visited the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to pay homage to late Senator Edward Kennedy. She placed a floral bouquet at the Senator's grave and observed one-minute silence at the graveyard.
Besides, the Foreign Minister exchanged views with the local Bangladeshi journalists in Washington. She briefed them on various steps taken by the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021 as well as a digital one.
Dipu urged the media to contribute their share in the effort. She also responded to the various queries of journalists.
Ambassador Akramul Qader, Deputy Chief of Mission of Bangladesh Embassy in Washington Sheikh Mohammed Belal and Press Minister of the Embassy Akhter Ahmed Khan were present on the occasion.
