Dipu Moni's statement untrue: BNP

Monday, 27 April 2009

Former ruling party BNP Sunday dismissed Foreign Minister Dipu Moni's statement as untrue and baseless saying that ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had talks with the Kings of Saudi Arabia four times during 2004-2006, reports UNB.
Addressing a press briefing at Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office in the morning, BNP chairperson's foreign affairs adviser Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury and joint secretary general Nazrul Islam Khan listed the dates of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's meetings with the Saudi monarchs.
They mentioned that Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at a press briefing at Zia International Airport Saturday on the just concluded visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Saudi Arabia had said this was the first in last seven years that a head of Bangladesh government had meeting with the King of Saudi Arabia.
Shamsher Mobin, former foreign secretary and Bangladesh ambassador in Washington, said giving such wrong information by the foreign minister about the meetings with the Saudi King might create embarrassment for the Saudi government.
Shamsher Mobin said former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had her first meeting with present Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud in November 2005 soon after his assumption of the throne when bilateral matters and welfare and rights of Bangladeshi workers in the kingdom were discussed.
