Dirty movie theatres harming our film industry
Thursday, 28 May 2015
The pitiable condition inside the movie theatres of our country is one reason why the audiences are not interested in watching a movie on the big screen. Apart from a few multiplex cinema halls of Dhaka and other big cities like Chittagong, good movie theatres are quite few and far between and the middle class who used to constitute majority of cine goers a few years ago, are gradually losing their interest. I hope the government will take some steps in this regard so that the theatre owners renovate their halls and the audience finds a nice and comfortable atmosphere to go with friends and family and watch a movie. I remember during my childhood days there were many cinema halls in the city which have been shut down as losing concerns and many big shopping malls have taken their place. In contrast, we see the Indian film industry moving forward with increasing audience while our film industry is languishing. We can import good Indian films so that the middle class comes back to the theatres and the theatres can again become a profitable business venture. Without good number of standard theatres we cannot expect our movie industry to flourish.
