Disaster management dept losses Tk 5b

The Disaster Management Department suffered around Tk 5.0 billion (500 crore) losses due to the arson attack during violence over quota protests last Thursday, reports UNB.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mohibur Rahman told the news agency unidentified miscreants set fire to the Disaster Management Department building in Dhaka's Mohakhali at around 04:30 pm on Thursday, burning the entire 10-storey building.
"Emergency operation centre, generator, server station burned to ashes due to the fire," he added. Besides, 53 vehicles including SUVs, covered vans, cars and 13 motorcycles were burned. However, paper and documents remain undamaged, said the state minister.
The state minister, Secretary Kamrul Hasan, Additional Secretary Abdul Wadud, and Directorate General of the department visited the area on Sunday and on Monday at 03:00 pm.
"We will start repairing work soon after investigating the overall situation," he added.
The state minister also urged all to safeguard state properties.
