Disconnect all illegal gas connections soon

Parliamentary standing committee on power, energy and mineral resources ministry told the authorities concerned on Sunday to disconnect all the illegal gas connections immediately after identifying them across the country.
They also suggested strengthening the activities of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX).
The committee made the suggestions at its 11th meeting at the parliament building. Committee chairman Tajul Islam chaired the meeting.
Other committee members Atiur Rahman, Abu Zahir, AFM Bahauddin, ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader and Nasima Ferdousi were also present.
In another meeting the fisheries and livestock ministry suggested taking necessary steps to provide aid to the affected fish farm owners during the recent nor'wester.
The committee also recommended taking necessary steps to protect 'jatka' (baby hilsa) and prevent 'mother hilsa' catch. They also asked the ministry to rehabilitate the fishermen during this time by providing subsidy.
The recommendations came at the 8th meeting of the committee at the parliament building. Committee chairman Mir Showkat Ali Badsha chaired the meeting.
The committee suggested drawing attention of the finance minister by the standing committee members to increase the budget of the ministry.
Besides, the committee recommended that the ministry should construct a wall around the recovered land of the National Zoo to bring it under control and take steps to buy some new animals.
Meanwhile, parliamentary standing committee on public accounts recommended realising a total of Tk 52.47 million unrealised money of 68 municipalities within 15 days and resolve the audit objections within 15 or 30 days by submitting the receipts to the audit office.
The committee also asked to settle audit objections of 34 district councils and one upazila involving Tk 108.29 million by submitting the report after investigation, realising the unrealised money and punishing the people who are responsible within 30 days.
The committee made the suggestions at its 26th meeting at the parliament building. Committee chairman Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir chaired the meeting.
The committee discussed the annual audit reports of comptroller and auditor general (CAG) of Bangladesh on local government ministry, municipalities, district and upazila councils, and city corporations for the fiscal year (FY) 2008-09 and 2009-10.
The committee also asked Dhaka City Corporation to resolve the audit objections involving Tk 88.25 million by realising the money, identify and punish the people responsible and submit the receipts to the audit office within 60 days.
Besides, PA committee suggested settling the audit objections involving Tk 286.90 million after investigation by a joint secretary of the ministry and representatives from audit office and local government within next 60 days.
The committee also suggested the local government engineering division (LGED) to resolve the audit objections involving Tk 56.75 million.
