Discount war heats up at DITF

Competition has heated up at the Dhaka trade fair, with stalls offering discounts and gifts to attract buyers even as sales are sluggish, traders said.
Due to countrywide blockade, the participants of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) see thinner presence of customers Friday.
The participants from sectors such as textile and garments, leather and leather goods, footwear, furniture, kitchenware, bikes, electronic goods, food items are offering lucrative discounts on their products.
"We've been offering 15 to 40 per cent discounts on our products", Atiar Rahman Dipu, Managing Director of BLU- Premium Fashion, a sister concern of SAASCO Group, told the FE.
He said BLU- Premium Fashion is a new brand, which is selling quality products.
He said due to giving discount they are getting huge response from customers.
Mohammad Al Mamun, area manager of clothing brand Smartex, said his company is giving 10 to 50 per cent discount on their products.
He said they are selling woven and knitwear items including pant, shirt, kurta, T-shirt regular, T-shirt polo, winter products, salwar kameez, ladies 3pc set and ladies kurta panjabi.
NADIA Furniture Ltd is offering up to 25 per cent discounts on its products, which is selling sofa set, dining set, bed, chest of drawers, dressing table and bedside table, Asadur Rahaman, a marketing executive said.
Ali Baba Door is offering 5-15 per cent discounts on its products. They are selling fire-proof door, wooden door, solid steel door, stainless steel door, carving solid and panel wooden door and frame.
Shamim Islam, a salesman of Navana Furniture, said they are offering average 20 per cent discount on its wooden furniture for homes and offices.
He said their product is stylish design, high quality, ergonomic functionality, competitive price and sound after sale service.
Runner Automobiles Limited (RAL) a local bike maker, is offering Tk 5,000 discount on each model and Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited card holders getting TK 7,000 on each model, Nesat Tasnim sales executive of RAL pavilion at the DITF said.
She said her company has been displaying 12 models of motorcycles at the fair.
Food processors such as Golden Harvest, Polar Ice Cream, Nabisco, Pran and Prince Food product are also offering special packages at prices much lower than regular prices.
