Wednesday, 8 October 2014

Finance Minister AMA Muhith has asked expatriates to raise awareness among fellow citizens to refrain from using gas for cooking in a power starved country such as Bangladesh. The Finance Minister was awarded for his 'remarkable' role in developing Bangladesh’s economy at a programme in New York on Monday (US eastern standard time). He urged the US-based Bangladesh expatriates to encourage their relatives back home to stop the misuse of gas. ‘Gas-based industries should be set up as much as possible instead,’ he said. ‘It will hasten development.’ Several discussants claimed the people of Sylhet were not getting gas for use whereas gas from Jalalabad field was supplied to various industries. The minister said the country’s development was the government’s top priority. Sylhet will not be excluded from this process, he added, according to bdnews24.com.
