Dispose of Azad case in 6 months: HC

The High Court (HC) has directed that the Humayun Azad murder case be disposed of within six months. The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah has issued the order while hearing the bail petition of Mizanur Rahman, one of the accused in the case. The court denied bail to Mizanur, and asked the defence and the prosecution to present their witnesses in time. Assistant Attorney General Gazi Md Mamunur Rashid represented the state during the hearing. He said after the hearing: “The High Court has ordered the judicial court to dispose of the case within six months.” The order said if the proceedings were incomplete at the end of six months the verdict must be issued on the basis of the evidence presented within that time. Dhaka University teacher Humayun Azad was attacked by miscreants on campus on February 27, 2004 while he was on his way back home from the Ekushey Book Fair. After several months of treatment, he flew to Germany for research. His dead body was found in his Munich flat on Aug 12, 2004, according to bdnews24.com.
