Disruption in CDBL halts spot trading of 7 issues

The total turnover on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Wednesday dropped below one billion due to halt of the spot trading of five major companies following disruption in the computer system of the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL). But, the indices on the day remained mixed.
The trading of five companies including BRAC Bank, DESCO, Power Grid, Standard Bank and Summit Power was halted from the morning until 1:45pm due to disruption in the CDBL system. The five companies were sent to the spot trading a few days ago. However, the trading resumed after 1:45 pm.
When asked, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the DSE Salahuddin Ahmed Khan said the capacity of the CDBL should be enhanced as early as possible.
"Although the trade volume on the DSE has increased substantially over the last few years, the capacity of the CDBL has remained unchanged since beginning of its operation," DSE CEO said.
On Wednesday the total turnover declined to Tk 929.80 million from Tk 1.165 billion on the previous day. But the total market capitalisation increased to Tk 546.548 billion from Tk 541.512 billion on the previous day.
All Shares Price Index (DSI) and DSE General Index (DGEN) gained by 21.816 points and 9.933 points to close at 1958.648 and 2394.114 respectively. But DSE-20 Index (DS20) declined to 32.659 points to close at 2159.626 on the day.
Out of 193 traded issues prices of 136 gained, 47 declined and 10 remained unchanged on the day.
Square Pharma maintained its position as the turnover leader with traded volume worth Tk 73.401 million, followed by UCBL Tk 63.451 million, Rupali Bank Tk 38.219 million, Southeast Bank Tk 36.152 million, NBL Tk 33.452 million, Aftab Auto Tk 30.127 million, Exim Bank Tk 26.715 million, Pubali Bank Tk 24.456 million, Apex Tannery Tk 22.476 million and Heidelberg Cement Tk 21.791 million.
Prices of Square Pharma gained by 0.26 per cent to Tk 5298.75, Rupali Bank by 22.31 per cent to Tk 1429.50, NBL by 1.62 per cent to Tk 983.25, Aftab Auto by 11.18 per cent to Tk 395.25, Pubali Bank by 1.08 per cent to Tk 906.50, Apex Tannery by 15.40 per cent to Tk 558.25 and Heidelberg Cement by 0.80 per cent to Tk 1129.00.
UCBL declined by 2.40 per cent to Tk 3394.75, Southeast Bank by 0.13 per cent to Tk 575.25 and Exim Bank by 0.42 per cent to Tk 408.25.
