Distracting from real issues

Tuesday, 8 December 2020

One of the national crises is that we fail to notice some serious issues as we are carried away by some events or controversies like the one surrounding sculpture. When two groups are supporting and opposing building sculpture, some serious developments are being ignored. A decision has been taken to close down six of 15 sugar mills on the plea of losses.
Only sugarcane growers and workers of the mills are opposing such decision. Some jute mills were closed earlier. Unfortunately, we fail to appreciate some past decisions that led to industrial success like Adamjee Jute Mills. We often take decisions without understanding their consequences. We ignore the fact that good quality sugar is produced from sugarcane. But we are now engaged in a debate that is not to the liking of many.
