District-level workshop on public procurement today

The district-level advocacy workshop on the issues of public procurement begins at Tangail today (Tuesday), said a press release.
Organised by the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the IME Division of the Ministry of Planning, the workshop titled Future Search Conference (FSC) is conducted by the Bangladesh Centre for Communication Programmes (BCCP).
The Deputy Commissioner of Tangail is expected to inaugurate the workshop.
Such FSCs under the Public Procurement Reform Project-II supported by the World Bank will be held in all 64 districts of the country to make aware the stakeholders about the Public Procurement Act and the Public Procurement Rules so that compliance level is increased.
Meanwhile, the FSCs have been held in five districts of Dhaka Division and all districts of Rajshahi divisions. Under the present phase, the FSCs are being held in Mymensingh and Faridpur regions.
Four large procuring entities of the government have been included as the target agencies in the PPRP-II.
These are Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED), Roads and Highways Department (RHD), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB).
Under the PPRP-II, CPTU is implementing four components to increase transparency, accountability, fair competition and equal treatment to all in the process of public procurement.
About 60 participants comprising the local officials of the four target agencies, other procuring entities, local government representatives, members of the bidding community, media and civil society take part in the FSCs.
