DITF meeting on media role to accelerate export tempos

Media can enhance the image of Bangladesh abroad that can help boost the country's export, reports BSS.
Annual export reached $12.18 billion in 2006-2007 financial year, an increase of 15.69 per cent over the previous fiscal (2005-2006).
This was stated at the first meeting of publication and souvenir committee in connection with the fourthcoming Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2008 at Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) in the city Thursday.
The month long fair will start from January 1 at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, western side of Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
Director General of EPB and Committee Convener Faridul Hasan chaired the meeting which was attended, among others, by member secretary of the committee Mohammad Shwkat Ali, committee members Md Nurul Islam, Md Nasir Uddin, Bijan Lal Deb, Md Enamul Haque, Fayzul Haque, Md Aktaruzzaman and M S Shekil Chowdhury.
Souvenir publication, selecting topics along with write-ups highlighting export commodities, holding press conference, coverage in both print and electronic media, special supplements and film documentation, among other issues, came up for discussion.
Bangladesh's major export items include ready-made garment, knitwear, frozen food (shrimp and fish), leather and leather products, jute and jute products, agro-based products, tea, ceramic, textile fabrics, home textile, chemical products and light engineering products including bicycle and handicrafts.
