DMC celebrates 35th founding anniversary today

The Department of Mass Communication (DMC) under the Ministry of Information will celebrate its 35th founding anniversary today, reports BSS.
On this day in 1972, the DMC was founded unifying the then Public Relations Directorate, Bangladesh Parishad, Bureau of National Reconstruction and Women's Wing.
Despite functioning in the present shape since 1972, the department having a long glorious history virtually started its journey in the year 1924 from the Writers Building in Calcutta with a view to motivating people particularly on health and sanitation issues. In the sixties, the department contributed a lot to the campaign for family planning.
In observance of the occasion, the DMC will organize a discussion and Doa Mahfil today at the Officers' Club in the city. The 68 units of the department have chalked out a programme to observe the day across the country.
The department as the single largest institution in terms of advocacy programme, has been carrying out different programmes at the grassroots level to motivate the people on children and women's right, reduction of neo-natal and maternal mortality and morbidity rate, birth registration, family planning, safe motherhood, immunisation, campaign against terrorism and corruption, prevention of bird flu and HIV/AIDS, the press release added.
In the recent years, particularly in the last two years, activities of the department, has been increased to a great extent.
