Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) nabbed 199 individuals on various charges while 47 cases were filed during raids in different places in the capital from 6:00 am on Saturday to 6:00 am the following day.
Following the strong directives from the government, the DMP have been conducting raids by its 667 mobile teams and 71 checkpoints to keep law and order situation under control.
A DMP official said that the police personnel at 50 police stations of the capital have been discharging their duties on a shift basis. 340 teams work during night while 327 teams do their duties during daytime, he said.
Apart from DMP mobile teams, there are 14 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) teams, 13 teams of Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU), and 10 teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) who are working to ensure safety for the city dwellers.
The police official further said that of the arrestees 15 are 'robbers' while 17 are active members of 'mugging groups', five are 'extortionists', 16 are 'thieves', seven are involved with 'drug trading', 36 are accused of different cases and the rest are involved with other criminal activities.
One pistol, one magazine, one switchgear knife, one steel made anti-cutter, one mobile set, one schoolbag, Tk 300 in cash, 250 grams of hashish and 95 Yaba tablets were also recovered from the arrestees.
