Monday, 30 June 2014

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed urged the people to join the anti-formalin campaign.
“We want you to join the drive the way you can against the silent killer,” he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating an awareness programme against formalin at the ‘Bak Chattar’ in the city’s Motijheel area Monday, according to a news agency.
The DMP boss opened the programme attaching stickers on vehicles as part of strengthening their ongoing campaign against formalin. The stickers read, ‘Nirob Ghatak Formalin, Protirodhey Ongsho Nin’.
He said the DMP has not imposed any restriction on the entry of formalin-free fruits inside the city. “We’ve slapped a ban on fruits laced with formalin.”
Benazir also said three is no fear of loss for the honest fruit traders as there is no bar to bringing formalin-free fruits inside the city.
He said they received enthusiastic response from the city dwellers to their ongoing anti-formalin campaign.
About testing formalin on imported fruits, the DMP commissioner said they have already initiated a move to set up a check post at Badamtali, the biggest fruit wholesale market, in the city.
