Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has adopted the move to ease the terrific traffic congestion that seriously hampers movement of the city dwellers.
According to the campaign, the city police would arrange view exchanging meetings with transport owners, drivers and workers about the traffic rules and also conduct an awareness building campaign through print and electronic media, posters and leaflets during the first week of December.
Twelve deputy commissioners would lead 12 teams at 12 intersections to conduct the campaign. The teams would be posted at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Sonargaon Hotel, Bijoy Sarani, Farmgate, Kakoli, Progati Sarani, Airport square, House Building, Science Lab, Russel Square, Asad Gate and Technical intersections to check whether the vehicles run from one lane to another ignoring the rules.
After completion of the weeklong campaign, the DMP will start a drive against traffic rule violators from December 8.
DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq told the reporters about the move after inaugurating the campaign at its headquarters in the city Tuesday.
Traffic rule violators would be fined a minimum of Tk 1,000 each while their driving licences would be seized for three months, he added.
