DNCC, DSCC remove 80pc waste from cattle markets

Two city corporations of Dhaka were removing bamboos and waste of 16 cattle markets set up in the city ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Almost 80 per cent work to remove bamboos and waste from the cattle markets have been completed as of Saturday, said sources at the two city corporations. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) set up five temporary cattle markets alongside Gabtoli permanent cattle market while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) established 10 cattle markets in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims.
Besides, Dhaka district authorities set up six cattle markets in the city. Sources at the DNCC and DSCC said steps were taken to remove bamboos and waste quickly so that the city dwellers cannot face any hassle.
DNCC chief estate officer Aminul Islam said employees of the corporation along with men of cattle market lessees started removing bamboos from Friday noon. Till Saturday evening, almost all bamboos and waste of four cattle markets out of five were removed.
The temporary cattle haats under the DNCC were established near Khilkhet-Banorupa Residential Project area, Eastern Housing at Mirpur 6, Sonargaon-Janapath Road in between Uttara Sector-11 and 13, Kuril-Purbachal 300-foot link road, Baunia Canal Embankment and Basila near Rayerbazar.
“Bamboos and waste of several temporary cattle markets have already been removed fully while in other haats partially,” Aminul said, hoping that the remaining bamboos and waste will be removed fully by Sunday.
Similarly, DSCC chief estate officer Khaled Ahmed expressed the hope that they would be able to fully remove the waste and bamboos by Monday.
Temporary cattle markets under the DSCC were Jigatala-Hazaribagh ground, Rahmatganj playground in Lalbagh, Meradia playground, Sadek Hossain Khoka playground, Maitree Sangha playground adjacent to North Shahjahanpur rail crossing, Dhupkhola East End Club playground, Balur Math adjacent to Brothers Union playground at Gopibagh, open space adjacent to Postagola Shashanghat, Haj Delwar Hossain playground at Lalbagh and near the Islam Chairman house near Buriganga second channel embankment.
The district administration of Dhaka also started removing the waste from the cattle markets, including Aftabnagar, under its jurisdiction.
This is for the first time that the corporations are able to remove the bamboos and waste from the temporary cattle markets so early, the NSCC chief estate officer added, according to UNB.
