DNCC to go tough on errant billboard owners

FE Report | Tuesday, 7 April 2015

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) decided Tuesday to take legal action against the owners of billboards with faulty construction, causing fatalities to people.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at Nagar Bhaban in the city with DNCC administrator Rakhal Chandra Barman in the chair. Representatives from various billboard companies and agencies were present in the meeting.
The authority took the decision after some billboards fell down and caused damages during the recent tornado.
The meeting discussed various infrastructural faults in the existing billboards and those set up without approval of the city corporation. The representatives were asked to repair all the infrastructural faults in the existing billboards within the shortest possible time considering the damages the tropical storms can cause.
Besides, the owners were asked not to approve the setup of any billboards without prior approval from the DNCC.
The DNCC also decided to issue public notice regarding the heights of the billboards at minimum level, examine the infrastructural design by experienced engineers and remove the faulty billboards shortly.
DNCC's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BM Enamul Huq and Chief Waste Management Officer Captain (BN) Bipon Kumar Saha were also present.     — msshova@gmail.com
