The DNCRP has geared up its ongoing drives against unscrupulous traders across the country with increased number of officials.
"We have been conducting market monitoring drives with 16 officers (14 deputy secretaries and two senior assistant secretaries) and law-enforcers against unscrupulous traders," Director General of the Directorate of National Consumers Rights Protection (DNCRP) Md Abul Hossain Mian told the FE.
He said from the mid-November the DNCRP's market monitoring drive has been intensified.
"We have a target to conduct at least 50 raids in different divisions, district towns and important markets by this month," he said.
The DG also said the DNCRP has been conducting regular market monitoring drives to stem the unscrupulous traders from making windfall profit by depriving the consumers through food adulteration and weight manipulation.
He said the organisation has already set up offices in five divisional cities and most district towns to strengthen anti-adulteration drives across the country.
"We have sent about 0.1 million posters for displaying at the government offices in divisions and district towns to make people aware, so that unscrupulous traders cannot deprive them. More posters will be sent, if required," Mr Hossain mentioned.
"Except the weekends, we conduct regular drives against unscrupulous traders at different shops and markets across the city. The DNCRP has realised more than Tk 31.35 million until Sunday through raids," he added.
The National Consumers Rights Protection Act 2009 has paved the way to formation of the DNCRP to protect consumers' rights.
