Do not allow VIPs to drive on wrong side, Obaidul asks cops

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader Sunday directed police not to allow any very important persons (VIPs) to drive on the wrong side of a road.
He came up with the directive while addressing an awareness programme on road safety organised by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) in the city’s Manik Miah Avenue, according to a news agency.
The BRTA distributed brochures among the people of all strata, including drivers and pedestrians, to make them aware of road safety.
The communications boss also witnessed the activities of BRTA mobile court during the programme.
The BRTA mobile court Sunday penalised 103 vehicles, including bus, human-hauler, CNG-run auto rickshaw and motorcycle, for running without valid papers. The court also sent 12 unfit vehicles to dumping station.
BRTA chairman M Nazrul Islam, executive magistrates Abul Bashar, Debashis Nag and Sajedul Islam, actress Tania Hossain, actor Monir Khan Shimul and vocalist SI Tutul joined the awareness programme.
