Docs call off strike

FE REPORT | Wednesday, 4 September 2024

The agitating doctors have called off their strike announcing return to hospitals across the country after getting assurances from the interim government to meet their demands on a priority basis.
On behalf of them, Dr Abdul Ahad, a resident surgeon of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), made the announcement at a news conference on Tuesday following a meeting with health secretary MA Akmal Hossain Azad.
Dr Ahad confirmed the withdrawal of the strike and resumption of all medical services countrywide, including in DMCH.
A team of four members met the senior secretary of the health service department and discussed their four demands, including security issue and arrest of attackers on doctors.
They also demanded an amendment to the draft of the Health Protection Act. Now, inconsistencies in the draft law will be rectified. Earlier, police arrested one person in connection with the attack on DMCH doctors.
