Doctors asked to serve in villages

Friday, 18 March 2011

Recently, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina warned doctors at a meeting at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre to serve people staying in the villages or leave the job. I do appreciate her concern for the rural people. I have been living in a village for about five years. Load shedding here starts after the Magrib prayer and it continues till 10:00 p.m., and it is a common phenomenon. Load shedding happens in the day time as well. This menace, however, intensified during the last two years. One of my relatives set up a small industry about a year ago, but he has not got the new electricity connection yet. He is in great trouble because he has to pay the interest against his loan. Had he got the connection he could earn from his industry and a number of people could also get job there. Sheikh Hasina also reminded the doctors that they are taking salaries which come from the tax of the common people, and it costs a huge amount of money from the state exchequer for making one a doctor. I earnestly request the government to improve the situation of villages so that people can meet their minimum requirements there. Sheuly Haque Tarash, Sirajgonj E-mail: sheuly.haque@gmail.com
