Dollar weaker against yen

TOKYO, Dec 28 (AFP): The dollar was weaker against the yen in Asian trade Wednesday after the US Treasury criticised Japanese interventions aimed at stemming the rise of the unit over the past six months. The dollar stood at 77.77 yen, down from 77.88 in New York late Tuesday. The euro was almost flat at $1.3068, compared with $1.3070, but lower at 101.64 yen from 101.77 yen in New York. The Treasury said Japan's interventions were unnecessary and that Tokyo would do better to strengthen its domestic economy and competitiveness.
