NILPHAMARI, June 10: Domar Milk Pasteurised Centre (DMPC), the lone in Nilphamari, needs to be upgraded, as it cannot meet the demand of the entire district, said sources.
If such a move is taken, the centre would contribute in boosting milk production in the region, and also create more employment opportunities in the 'monga' prone districts, they added.
DMPC plays a pivotal role in milk selling and marketing of the region, as the producers of Domar, Jaldhaka and Sadar upazilas of the district as well as Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district sell their milk to the centre.
There were 52 milk-producing societies in the region, out of which 33 are presently in operation. Each society comprises of 20 to 90 farmers.
Thus, more than 1,000 producers are selling their milk to DMPC. On an average, 5,400 litres of milk are being pasteurised in the centre every day for sending to Baghabari Milk Vita factories.
