Donate blood, save life
Tuesday, 17 June 2014
Having worked with Quantum Lab, one of the pioneers in blood transfusion programme, as a volunteer and being a regular blood donor, I have come across many practical experiences. I have witnessed what terrible and bitter situation people face in procuring blood for their near and dear ones. Many people are unaware why blood donation is so important. They realise its importance only when they face blood crisis in times of need. There are many wrong perception associated with blood donations. Some think that blood donation is injurious for health while some think blood donation is painstaking. These are simply baseless and superstitious views.
Donating blood at regular intervals of four months revives and rejuvenates our blood cells. It is heartening to see that organisations likeĀ Red Crescent, Shondhani, Quantum Lab, and Badhon have come forward to save people's lives.
It is sad to note that professional blood donors, who are infecting fatal diseases, dominate the field. Blood taken from them may cause blood-transmitted diseases. If the voluntary donors come in greater numbers professional donors would be sidelined. We need to donate blood spontaneously so that no one dies for want of blood.
