FE REPORT | Monday, 1 April 2024

The High Court on Sunday instructed the law-enforcement agencies not to arrest or harass three top officials of the Transcom Group for 72 hours of their return to the country, according to the lawyers concerned.
The officials in question are the Transcom Group's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Simeen Rahman, Chairman Shahnaz Rahman, and Transcom's head of transformation Zaraif Ayaat Hossain.
However, the Transcom officials have also been directed to surrender in a competent court within 72 hours of their return in a murder case.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice K M Zahid Sarwar passed the order after hearing on a writ petition filed by the accused.
Lawyers Nurul Islam Sujan, Mahbub Ali, Shah Monjurul Hoque, Siddique Ullah Miah appeared in the court hearing on behalf of the accused, while Assistant Attorney General Abul Kalam Khan Daud represented the state.
A murder case has been filed against 11 people including two of these three officials by Shahzreh Huq, the younger daughter of the late Chairman of the group, with Gulshan Police Station.
According to the complaint, her elder brother, Arshad Waliur Rahman, who passed away nine months ago, was murdered.
Lawyer Siddique Ullah Miah said his clients who have been accused in the case are currently abroad. They filed the writ petition with the High Court seeking its directives so that the Transcom officials can return home without any hindrance and surrender in the court.
Earlier the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court issued same directives upon the law enforcers in three other cases filed against the Transcom Group officials.
On February 22, Shahzreh filed three other cases with the police station on charges of fraud and breach of trust regarding the company's shares and properties. In the three cases, eight top officials, including the Chairman and CEO of Transcom Group, were made accused.
