National Citizen Party's (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has called on people to take to the streets peacefully in protest against the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi, report bdnews24.com.
Speaking at a press conference outside the party's office in Banglamotor on Friday evening, Patwary said: "We do not want to vandalise the Indian [High Commission].
"Those who are trying to provoke such actions… we urge the 180 million people of Bangladesh to come out on the streets in a non-violent and democratic manner."
He added: "Those who want to sabotage, who want to attack journalists, or who want to carry out attacks on embassies… neutralise them and bring them onto the streets as your brothers and sisters, as allies."
Urging people to act with reason, Patwary warned that any attack on diplomatic missions or similar acts of sabotage could open the door to foreign intervention.
"If any embassy is attacked, if such sabotage activities take place, external forces will get an opportunity to intervene. We do not want to give any such opportunity," he said.
Referring to the interim government, Patwary said it had both strengths and weaknesses, but the killing of Hadi had further exposed its fragile state.
"Through Hadi, it has become even more visible that this government is fragile, that it is failing to govern and is not acting effectively," he said.
He added that if people across Bangladesh remained active in the field through democratic means, the government would be compelled to take up several initiatives.
"Through those actions, we will be able to confront external forces," he said.
Describing the NCP as firmly committed to democratic and non-violent politics, Patwary said this was the ideal taught by Hadi.
