Don't cast vote during dummy polls: BNP

FE REPORT | Thursday, 4 January 2024

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has exhorted the voters to refrain from casting their ballots during the "dummy" and "farcical" general election on January 07.
The party that remains out of the ballot battle made the appeal as its leaders distributed leaflets in different places of the capital, Dhaka, on Wednesday.
Distributing leaflets in the press club arena, BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan said the government was going to stage another farcical election with intent to perpetuate power.
"They (government) are now planning to establish a one-party Bakshal rule in the country. But the BNP believes in liberal and non-violent politics," he added.
"The BNP doesn't believe in the politics of violence. It will face bullets on streets but won't break peace. The countrymen will topple the government through a peaceful movement to restore democracy."
Dr Moyeen blamed the government for taking out billion-dollar foreign loans for looting, as he alleged that the ruling-party men diverted loan money to countries like Canada, Dubai and Malaysia.
Mentioning the country was passing through hard times, he maintained that the ruling Awami League was desperate to hold onto power.
The former minister cites the January 07 polls as a drama, saying that the government has snatched away people's right to vote.
